Red and Rover was first published on May 7, 2000, by a group of Washington writers who continued to publish the comic strips for the first ten years, after which the Andrews Macmillan syndicate took over the publication of Red and Rover. Creator ” Brian Bassett ” Prologue :

Brian Bassett was born in Norwalk in 1957 and wanted to be a cartoonist from a young age. He was very fond of drawing and storytelling and spent most of his time drawing cartoons and reading stories since childhood. As a child, he loved reading comic strips like Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes. 

He inherited his love of art from his father, who was a political cartoonist and served as president of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists. Bassett said he loved the way his father took out a piece of paper and put soul into it by making beautiful drawings. He was greatly influenced by the work of Charles M. Schulz and Bill Waterson and wanted to be a cartoonist like them.

Having dreamed of becoming a great cartoonist, he worked day and night to master sketching. He is a primitive person who prefers drawing with pencil on paper rather than drawing on computers, tablets, etc. which are common nowadays, and uses computers only for finalizing his drawings.

He began his professional career as an artist in 1978 by creating editorial cartoons for The Seattle Times, which employed him for sixteen years. 

Brian’s First Comic Strip :

Along with this work, he started his first comic strip called Adam@Home which depicts the life of a working wife and a stay-at-home husband who takes care of three children. After retiring from The Seattle Times, he decided to focus on comic strips to improve his writing and to make the comic strips compelling and attractive.

After the Adam@Home comic strips were rejected by most newspapers, he decided to create comic strips that were perfect from the start and moved the hearts of his readers at first glance.
