Alexander was very passionate about art from a very young age. he was obsessed with making drawings, sketches, and paintings and studied art at Glasgow School of Art under the supervision of a skilled artist, William Hutchison.
He is a talented cartoonist who also served in the war despite being a cartoonist. He is known for his observational sense of humor and has been called a “gentle genius” by the Daily Mail. He has produced thousands of cartoons during his lifetime including ‘Graham’s Golf Club’ and ‘Daughter in the House’ but his biggest success is the creation of the comic strip, Fred Basset.

After Graham’s death on December 3, 1991, Michael Martin continued to create comic strips in the same style as Graham, teaming up with Keith, a British comic artist. It retained the original whimsical theme of these comics. But after the 21st century, comic strips evolved a bit but still reflected the same theme with some nods to modern life.
