Welcome to the whimsical and wacky world of PVP comics, an award-winning gaming webcomics that feature the adventures of the boss and the employees of a small magazine company dedicated to producing gaming magazines called PVP abbreviated as player versus player. 


Inception Of PVP Comics :

The comic strips made its inception in May 1994 as the first gaming comics that largely explore themes of games with a few references to the nerd culture but over time, it added a wide variety of subjects.

About Creator ” Scott Kurtz ” :

PVP is written and illustrated by Scott Kurtz, a notable American webcomic artist known for his sharp wit, vibrant artwork, and engaging storytelling. He is one of the first artists who introduced the world of webcomics. By creating the longest-running PVP webcomics, he provides a thought-provoking and insightful commentary on love, life, relationships, gaming, technology,  and nerd culture and established himself as a visionary force in the world of webcomics. 

Other Comics Of Scott Kurtz :

Besides PVP, he is the creator of many other comics including ”captain Amazing” which is Kurtz’s daily comic strip, ”samwise” which is Kurtz’s first online comic, ”tales by Tavern Light” is Kurtz’s second online comic, ”Wedlock Comics” which Kurtz describes his married life. he also cowrote many comics such as Truth, Justin, American Way, and The Trenches.

After creating PVP, he launched its spin-off in 2013 under the name of Table Titans and does not stop here. Now he is working from his home and doing his best to push the boundaries of the comic industry, exploring new genres, formats, and mediums with his imaginative thinking and creativity.

Kurtz has cemented himself as one of the king artists in the comic world and has earned many awards including the Eiser Award, Eagle Award, and Harvey Award for his unmatchable work in the comic world.

Characters Of PVP Comics :

The important characters in the comic strip include Cole Richard, Brent Sienna, Jade Sienna, and Francis. Here is a brief introduction of these characters.

  • Cole Richard :

Cole Richard is the head of the magazine company and launched the PVP magazine in collaboration with Brent. in the comic strips, he is depicted as a nontech and insecure character who does not much about emerging technology and is often worried about his position in the company.

  • Brent Sienna :

Brent Sienna’s complete name is Bentley Irving Sienna and is called Brent Sienna on the name of a crayon color burnt Sienna.  In the comic strips, he is depicted as an arrogant and elitist character who keeps high standards and has a great love for Apple products. He does like ordinary things and has even forbidden the use of PCs in his home. 

All the time, he is doing his best to look cool and elegant in the eyes of others and for this, he practices different things such as drinking a lot of Starbucks coffee and wearing glasses all the time because he believes that doing this makes him look cool and elegant. He performed his services as the director of the magazine and married his colleague Jade at the magazine company.

  • Jade Sienna :

She is a journalist at the Magazine company and works under Brent and after a long time relationship with him, she marries him. She acts as the voice of wisdom, influencing others to act sensibly although she is not as ethical as she pretends to be because she once was punished for stealing chemistry final paper answers and taking her stepfather’s car without getting his permission. She is the biggest advocate of feminism and demands equal rights for women as that of men.

  • Francis Ottoma :

Francis is the youngest of all the employees of the magazine. Despite his young age, he is a brilliant programmer who has a keen interest in technology and has built various robots using leftover parts.

Other characters include Cole’s rival publisher Max Powers, Brent’s imaginary animal friend called Skull the Troll, a cat named Scratch Fury, and a Kutz version of Batman and Robin, named lolbat who talks like the Internet. 

Success Of PVP Comics :

The webcomics were an intermediate success that captured the hearts of millions of people at first sight and was receiving about 100,000 visitors each day after the start of 2005. It has also won numerous awards which include 17 Harvey awards, 16 Eisner Awards, 15 Eagle awards, etc. Besides this, it has also garnered thousands of followers on different social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
