He was born in Chicago and started drawing because of the encouragement of his mother who was one of the great artists of her time.
Initially, he devised comic strips about struggling film actresses seeking fame by working on low-budget film cases for the Newspaper Enterprise Association. These first comic strips of Chic Young were published in 1921 on Halloween for a short period of time.
9 years after the publication of his first comic strip, he began creating illustrations for the Blondie comic strips, which quickly gained popularity and soon became one of the most popular comic strips around the board.
