He wanted to become one of the great comic artists and decided to pursue his education in the arts. Lincoln is also a talented writer who has written many animations for various television cartoon channels such as Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. He has also written a series of major novels that have achieved great success and have entered the New York bestseller list. He has also worked in other fields of life including teaching and coaching. 

Themes Explored In  Big Nate Comics:

Lincoln used the comic strip to depict his own childhood experiences when he was a student. At first, when the strip was in the early years of its publication, it included limited characters and mainly involved humor about Nate’s family life but later, the theme of Big Nate was changed to Nate’s school life. With the change in subject, a wide variety of characters were added to the comic strip which included a wide cast of classmates and teachers that continued on addition as the strip continued to publish.

Central Characters Of Big Nate :

Nate Wright is the main and unstoppable protagonist of the comic strip known for his best-smelling abilities, a bigger sense of humor mischievous antics, wild schemes, and love for comics and doodling. he is a star of the show around which all the comic strips revolve. He is an eleven-year-old spiky-haired boy who is not very good at studies but is a very talented cartoonist chess player and drummer. 

In the comic strips, he is shown as a hilarious and mischievous character who is playing pranks on his friends and flirting with girls. He spends most of his time either drawing comics or playing drums. He has various misconceptions about himself such as he considers himself the best sports player and a genius although he has poor athletic and academic records.

He embarks on hilarious adventures with his friends named Francis Pope, Teddy Ortiz, and Dee dee Holloway. 

Francis Pope is a bookish worm who loves reading books and this attitude of his annoys Nate. In the comic strips, Nate and Francis are shown sharing a deep connection despite their counter personalities and arguments on various subjects such as dogs versus cats as Francis loves cats.

Teddy Ortiz is another of Nate’s best friends who is known for his humorous nature, jokes, and annoying Nate. In the comic strips, he is a half-Mexican and half-Puerto Rican brave boy who is found playing pranks and going on adventures with his friends. He has a very easy-going personality and carefree attitude and has a signature phase of “no worries dude”.

Dee Dee Holloway is Nate’s artistic and quirky friend who loves drawing and painting and is famous for her imaginative ideas. He adds to the sense of whimsy of the friend group and is known for his catchphrase “Let’s be creative!” 

Nate’s teachers include Mrs. Godfrey and Mr. Rosa. Mrs. Godfrey is known for her tough appearance and attitude but is very soft inside and is always patient with Nate’s antics even though she dont like such mischievous behavior.  She used to say, “Nate, you’re in big trouble.” 

Mr. Rosa is another Nate teacher who is often the target of Nate’s jokes. He is a very patient and kind person who doesn’t say anything despite Nate’s antics.

Supporting Characters :

Other characters in the comic strips include a fifteen-year-old sister of Nate named Ellen Wright, known for her love of cats and constant rival of Nate, who often targets Ellen with pranks and jokes, Nate’s dreamgirl and a crush named Jenny, and a dog named Spacey who is known for wearing clothes such as a sweater and a cone.

Adaptation into other Media :

Given the success, Big Nate has also been adapted into other media such as book series, television animated series,  video games, and merchandise, etc. The publication of the book series was started by HarperCollins who took the initiative to publish Big Nate books in series followed by Andrew McMeel publishing which started publishing compilations of  Big Nate in series which consist of 22 books.  These books became the York Times bestseller books that sold over 20 million copies and have also been translated into 33 different languages.

The comic strip remains limited to the pages of newspapers and announced its online publication on various comics featuring websites including Gocomics.com and poptropica.com which is a website dedicated to sharing content for children.
